The first issue of Nepal Post came out on 14 December, 1973 (29 Mangsir, 2029 BS). It was then published as a vernacular fortnightly. Since 1979 it became a weekly newspaper. During the Panchayat regime, it had to suffer systematic repression during the post-referendum period between 1979 and 1980. An all-out attempt to close down the newspaper and put the editor out of work was made by the government after the 1985 serial bomb explosions in Kathmandu. The editor was unlawfully put in a torturous cell in the name of investigation. Democracy was restored in Nepal in 1990, and from 1992 Nepal Post came out as a daily vernacular newspaper for a short while. Due to lack of resources, its publication could not be sustained. Nepal Post started to be published again from March 2001 as a monthly magazine. This
